About Tom Sommer:
Since his appointment as the first president of the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC), Tom Sommer has served as the association’s chief executive officer and drove the organization’s growth to over 300 member companies, including manufacturers and developers of medical products, suppliers, research institutions, and academic health centers. Tom advanced the public policy interests of the Massachusetts medical device sector on Capitol Hill, Beacon Hill, and before various federal and state agencies.
Prior to his appointment at MassMEDIC, Tom served as a vice president of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and vice president for policy and communications of the New England Council. Tom has also served as deputy director of the Massachusetts Office of Federal-State Relations, as a member of Governor Michael S. Dukakis’ senior staff, and as a legislative assistant at the National Association of Development Organizations.
